Our project isn’t a stand-alone thing, it’s a network of people working for the good cause. We’re a growing community of supporters and friends engaged in the act of craftivism.
Our most important partner of course is Tara Trust in India, where our money goes to. Tara Trust is a registered non-profit, charitable organization with the mission to educate, enable and empower the underpriviledged. We visited them in 2011 and became good friends with the initiator Dr. Katharina Poggendorf-Kakar.
All this is only possible with our most essential material: colourful socks from MINGA BERLIN. It’s not just the stunning colours and patterns that we’re happy about, but also the fact, that the socks are made from certified organic cotton and are manufactured to meet high social and environmental criteria. Thank you, MINGA BERLIN for sponsoring the socks, that make our sock zoo as adorable as it is.
Another fantastic organization and great inspiration to us is Operation Sock Monkey in Canada. OSM is a is a volunteer-run initiative in support of humanitarian organizations such as Clowns Without Borders (CWB) in Montreal, the United States and South Africa. From Lindsey Hodgson we got our initial idea to start the Strumpfaffen project in Berlin. We see ourselves as the German sister of OSM Canada.
In Mexico we worked with Fundación que Transforma who are located in Tijuana and Ensenada. FQT maintains a couple of orphanages where they make sustainability an essential part of their kids’ education. Reusing old fabrics for the stuffing of sock monkeys is just one way to do so.
A great partner for offering our workshops is the upcoming and
